A minimum all around lens to buy with it is the Panasonic 12-35. 32 GB Sandisk SD card costed the same as the SSD without speed booster easier to go wide (e.g. does not balance on my Glidecam HD-1000, too heavy Arri baseplate was about 200 euros, very expensive piece of metal, but quite necessary to avoid blocking the fan output I had all lenses already, no need to buy any new Anything else than wide angle is going to be a telephoto lens. Comparing to my 5D mark II raw, the 5D crushes blacks and there is nothing there except noise.ĥD mark III wins in sensor size of course since the crop of the BM cameras is quite much crop anyway. Also the BM cameras have more dynamic range to my understanding the even the 5D mark III in raw mode. I chose the BMCC because according to my research it has more detail in the image, it was much more practical than the Magic Lantern raw (which is a hack still, not that usable, good for tinkerers but if you only want to shoot.). My old camera was/is 5D mark II and I have tried Magic Lantern raw recording with it. I was choosing between BMCC, pocket cinema camera and 5D mark III. She's a handful but definitely worth the trouble! I would compare it to a sexy temperamental girlfriend. In naked mode, I can shoot in places my dslr would never be allowed. Even though the price of the ride is $995, are you willing to spend the extra money to make it work? Will it mean selling your canon body? Or will the pocket simply be a B cam? The vimeo footage should prove some of what this camera is capable of, so there should be no doubt it's a performer. But it produces a true filmic image that competes with higher end cinema cameras. You either need new MFT glass or an adapter.
Most have been fixed via update or it seems not all cameras have orbs issue or black dot. The BMPCC on the other has many many quirks.
And if you already have it and heavily invested in the Canon ecosystem, why not just download some free software (ML) and shoot amazing footage? Almost seems like a no-brainer there. And with really good lighting, I've seen stuff from the 5D (with h.264 codec) look as if it was shot on RED.
Full frame, canon EF mount.easy! But it's $3,500. What is worth more to you as a filmmaker/videographer? The Canon 5D is tried and true. I'm sure others will chime in soon but I think it comes down to personal preference. It looks remarkable, yet it still looks like television. This was the best 5D Mk3 raw footage I've ever seen. Maybe because my eyes are spoiled after looking at all this glorious BMC footage, anything coming out of a Canon with the exception of the C cameras, looks like "video", unless the grade was extreme and well done. The 5D Mk3 RAW, to my eyes, even though the quality definitely exceeds H.264, still doesn't look very "filmic". The workflow with the pocket is a little better IMO. You can shoot some great stuff on both and both look fantastic. However, something like that is very subjective. That's not exactly what your original post stated.
